Zidou

Zidou game is a word guessing game inspired by the popular game Wordle, with a unique twist that incorporates Cantonese spelling and tones into the gameplay. It was designed by Josh Wardle, and Samuel Lo created a Cangjie version called "JNDLE Zidao," which in turn inspired A Zezhen's Cantonese puzzle.

In the Zidou game, the objective is to guess a five-letter word or phrase using Cantonese letters. Cantonese is a variety of Chinese primarily spoken in Guangdong province and Hong Kong, known for its distinctive pronunciation and tones.

The game provides feedback on each guess by changing the color of the boxes. The colors used for feedback are as follows:

  • Green: This color indicates that a letter in the guess is correct both in terms of its identity and its position in the word.

  • Yellow: The yellow color signifies that a letter in the guess is correct in terms of its identity but is placed in the wrong position within the word.

  • Red: When a letter in the guess is not present in the target word or phrase, the corresponding box is marked in red.

Players have up to six attempts to guess the correct word or phrase. The challenge in Zidou lies in deducing the correct spelling and arrangement of the Cantonese letters based on the feedback provided by the game. By analyzing the colors and adjusting their subsequent guesses, players aim to identify the correct combination of letters that make up the target word.

Zidou game offers a unique and engaging experience for players who are familiar with Cantonese spelling and tones, providing a fun way to test their knowledge and skills in the language.
